“Diversité culturelle
et libre-échange à la lumière du cinema” (“Cultural
diversity and free trade in the light of cinema”) by Christophe
Germann, published by Bruylant (Brussels), LGDJ (Paris) and Helbing & Lichtenhahn
(Basle), 2008. The author analyzes in this book the cultural and
economic specificities of cultural goods and services at the example
of the film industry. He makes certain proposals in this publication
aimed at developing a desirable new legal framework to protect and
promote cultural diversity. In particular, he focuses on international
intellectual property and competition law as well as on the UNESCO
Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural
expressions that entered into force on 18 March 2007, and on the
rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that influence the cultural
policies at stake.
